Hello to all! I am a tutor with seven years of experience, starting out as a peer mentor for French in high school. In that capacity, I offered general homework assistance and worked intensively with one student to enabled him to move directly from first-year into third-year language classes. In college, specifically during my senior year in St. Petersburg, Russia, I worked as an ESL tutor for a group of ten undergraduate students at the Smolny Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In the summers of 2012 and 2013 I was a volunteer teacher and tutor for English language and American history/civics. Finally, since May of 2014, I have been a private one-on-one tutor for Russian language and culture. As a certified ESL instructor, I have a keen awareness and understanding of the difficulties English poses both for native and non-native students. I love coaching ESL and language arts, and my background in English and foreign languages enables me to explain concepts in multiple ways to maximize student understanding. I also have extensive experience with geography and history, both world and American, that can be taught stand-alone or used as context to frame other lessons.
