Lindsy's Bio & Tutoring Experience

In June 2014, I moved from the sandy beaches of Honolulu, HI to the equally beautiful lake around Chicago, IL to work as a first and second grade special education teacher in a Chicago Public School. My students are learning using Common Core Standards one year above grade level (ie. first grade students are taught with second grade standards), though I take individual student levels and needs into consideration when differentiating lessons.

I have instructed gifted first graders who read at a fifth grade level based on Lexile Levels, and other students who did not initially know how to read but became fluent readers on or above grade level by the end of the year. Regardless of students' starting points, I believe I possess the patience and positive attitude that can help students form a passion for reading--a skill that successful people need for writing, math, science, and college readiness. June 2015 marked my first school year as a teacher.

Prior to teaching at Chicago Public Schools, I tutored for a total of four years in Hawaii. Though I focused on language arts, I worked with K-12th grade and undergraduate students in reading comprehension, writing, math, history, and SAT/ACT preparation.
