Casemira's Bio & Tutoring Experience
I participated in a work study program called the Right to Read (developed by the Clinton Administration), which offers additional assistance in the subject areas of both Reading and Math to students who are educationally struggling in these areas. I implemented this program into a school's curriculum of which this program had never been offered before. As I presented this program to 1'st through 3'rd grade children, both during and after school, I came to realize how much of an impact this tutoring service was making in the lives of the participating children. These children truly benefited from the additional assistance provided.I believe that learning must be fun in order to be effective, and in doing so I used strategy games, good praise, incentives, and rewards to help keep the interest of the children while tutoring them as a group during the in school program, and with the after school program I offered as well. I have truly enjoyed making tutoring fun for the children who participated in the programs I provided, and in doing so I strongly believe this is what helped me to stand out. Over the past 4 years I have individually seen three of the students I tutored in this program. Each student recognized and remembered me, as well as informed me that they had passed on to the next grade. These children made an impression on me and I honestly believe that I too made an impression on them. This truly brought me great satisfaction to know that I had helped them take such great strides in their education, resulting in them being able to move forward and passing on to the next grade.
