As a tutor I have had the opportunity to work with k-6 grade students that were struggling in reading and math. I enjoyed helping students to develop the skills they needed to be on task. While working with children, through informal and formal assessments I discovered gaps in their learning that caused some children to struggle and fall behind in their class work. I have worked with students in the past that worked with cursive writing and did not work on print (which caused them to not be as familiar with print). The student suffered because they were not familiar with their letters and the sound of their letters. After assessing the student I found the student needed to learn not only the sounds of their letters they needed to become more familiar with recognizing print in order to build fluency and comprehension. The student was able to improve his reading and is now making better connections in reading. I have worked as a tutor for over 10 years. I enjoy watching students grow academically and I'm thankful I have information that can help struggling learners excel. I have a thirst for knowledge and I genuinely believe I am a highly motivated person. My prior experience as a tutor allowed me to stay current with grade level content and has helped me to implement strategies that are effective. Being able to help students bridge learning gaps and develop the necessary academic skills to be successful learners has been very rewarding.
