Katelyn's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I worked as a camp counselor for five years, working primarily with middle-school aged children. While I have no paid tutoring experience, I spent much of my time in college helping my colleagues study and giving feedback on rough draft essays, and I consider myself to be qualified to work with students in similar processes. My goal is to teach Philosophy at the university level, so I take tutoring very seriously not only for the sake of the student, but for my own experience as well. My preferred style as yet is to ask questions: sometimes leading or pedagogical questions, oftentimes questions that are simply meant to stimulate thought, which I do not have preconceived answers to. That said, I do appreciate the necessity of explanation when a student is confused or frustrated, and I can accommodate those needs as well.

Katelyn's Education & Certifications

I have a degree with Departmental Honors in Philosophy from the University of Oregon, and a minor in French. In my French language education, I focused more on linguistic skills than literary or cultural studies, although my philosophy background has equipped me well for literature analysis, as my professors can attest. My focus on French grammar has helped me enormously in my English grammar competency, and I have always been an excellent nonfiction (specifically essay) writer.
