Allison's Bio & Tutoring Experience

I have a passion for science that comes out through teaching. I work hard to encourage others to be excited and interested since I feel there's no learning without those emotions first. I think it's important to visualize and understand concepts in their entirety as opposed to solely memorizing them like many of us do. Learning new topics should be a conversation leading to the comprehension of the material. I enjoy using analogies, real world ideas, visualizing concepts, drawing pictures, and creating diagrams to help the student see as opposed to regurgitating information back and forth. I have an incredible amount of patience and empathy for those struggling to understand new concepts and I find nothing more satisfying than seeing their face light up when they finally get it. Equally as important to me is helping someone blossom with passion and interest for the subject material they are required to get through but don't care for. I have the ability to see when we need to shift gears to approach it a new way and feel that is critical to success.

Sessions would focus around a specific concept, chapter, test preparation, or syllabus outline for the week/day. Figuring out how to get through to the student and incite curiosity while destroying the stress that comes along with learning hard topics is not only meaningful to the student but also allows for true understanding to begin. Sessions will be spent discussing issues they are topics, letting them find the answer through engaging their questions and working through their confusions, going over supplied material, and working through problems.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Geology that required extensive writing, chemistry, math, and lab work to attain. Before finding a major that better fit my interests, I went through 3 years of biology and marine science. I continue education on my own personal time as well, with topics ranging through various sciences as well as math.
